Fiona is a remarkable dog who will be awarded the ASPCA’s Dog of the Year title today. She has touched the hearts of so many and it all began in 2010 when she was rescued by a couple, Eldad and Audrey Hagar. Her story hit the internet and the rest was history.
Her tale began in a trash heap where she sat, blind and alone for who knows how long. Hope for Paws, run by the Hagars, found her there and videotaped the entire process. They rescued her, cleaned her up, socialized her and even raised money for surgery that helped restore sight in one of her eyes.(dog walking services nyc)
Her video became a viral sensation, one that was covered by media outlets everywhere. She has brought hope and awareness to people, boosted adoptions of special needs dogs and given the Hagars enough money to do a lot of what they do best: rescue.
Fiona was adopted by Michele and Chris Gentry in February of 2011 and is living a happy life. She doesn’t know how many she’s positively affected.
If you weren’t aware of her story, here’s her rescue video. It’s incredibly touching:
