Hey, dog lovers! Tomorrow is a very special day indeed. It’s the second annual Remember Me Thursday and this year the candle-lit event is gaining even more attention from around the world. Want to get involved and hear more? We’ve got all the details, links and even a cute love story to lighten the mood, right here!
Remember Me Thursday (September 25th 2014) is the idea of Helen Woodward Animal Center president Mike Arms. He refers to it as “a global awareness campaign that shines a light on the 3.4 million shelter pets, annually, who never got a chance at a happy life with a forever family.” But not only will you be honoring the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home, you’ll also be shining a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. Last year the event gained tons of support from celebrities and animal lovers around the world.(dog walking services nyc)
And guess what? Our favorite Grey’s Anatomy actor is taking center stage as the official spokesperson for this year’s event. Yup, Katherine Heigl (AKA Izzie Stevens) will be supporting Remember Me Thursday and we’re so happy about it! She’s a major advocate for homeless dogs and together with her mother, started her very own organization dedicated to animal welfare called The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation.
Last year over 130 countries got involved in Remember Me Thursday, with more than 100,000 supporters. This year you can get involved by spreading the message, lighting a candle and getting clued up on the subject of rescue dogs and animal shelters over at the Remember Me Thursday website. Light a virtual candle right here then change your profile pic to the Remember Me Thursday icon for the day. Spread the campaign through your social media channels by using the hashtag #LIGHTSFORPETS and encourage people to adopt a pet.
Heigl also has EIGHT shelter dogs of her own! AND she’s starring in a new NBC drama this fall called State of Affairs. So excited!
Now let us share with you the adorable love story of when Julie met Charlie. It’s like when Harry met Sally but better. If you were ever thinking about adopting or fostering a rescue dog, this darling infographic about rescue dogs and their foster parents will definitely melt your heart:
