San Diego Dogs Are Surfing Machines

June 19, 2012

This past week an event full of waves, surfboards, the beach and dogs took place in San Diego. It was the 7th Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog competition! Ocean-loving dogs and their owners competed in competitive wave-riding to see who had the best surfing prowess.

PawNation reports that lots of fans looked on as the 50 dogs competed in three different size-based heats. An Australian Kelpie named Abbie Girl won the small dog heat. Ricochet, a Golden Retriever, service dog and ASPCA’s Dog of the Year won the large dog heat and the tandem prize went to Zoey, a Jack Russell Terrier and her owners. Here are the winners doing their thing.(dog walking services nyc)

Small dog winner: Abbie and her proud owner

Large dog winner: Ricochet, wearing cool shades

Tandem winners: Zoey with her owners Scott and Tyler Chandler

These three pups won official prizes and medals while all the other participants took home a consolation prize. And if that wasn’t enough fun, during the competition, three Guinness World Records were broken including most dogs to be photographed on a surfboard. See the awesome pile of surfing pups below.

Looks like a lot of fun! Enjoy more pictures from the event via Pawnation.
