Pirelli is one of the dogs that was bred into the Canine Assistants program, a non-profit that trains service dogs and pairs them with humans in need. When Pirelli was born, however, he was very obviously different from the rest of the puppies in the program. Pirelli was missing a back paw. While this makes him unfit to be a traditional service dog who would open doors, leads someone around and so on, he does have a very special job that he is already fulfilling: raising disability awareness.(dog walking services nyc)

Disabled Dog

HLNtv.com reports that when Pirelli was born disabled, the foundation was unsure of how to handle it. They struggled with whether or not to amputate his back leg but ultimately decided to design a silicone bootie for him to use as a prosthetic. The organization used Groupon to raise money to continue to replace Pirelli’s bootie as he grew.

Now Pirelli has an important job of educating the public on what it’s like to have a disability. He will visit schools and show children that it doesn’t matter if you’re disabled. Jennifer Arnold, founder of Canine Assistants said, “We talk about how brilliant our dogs are and how they really don’t judge based on what your body can do, but what kind of person you are…Pirelli is just an exquisite example that life isn’t about how you get from place to place, or what you see or hear. It’s so much more than that. His spirit is unbelievable, he’s got that very special blessing. Imagine what he will be able to do for kids who wont be teased because he will teach kids the right way to think.”
