Dogs Sleep in a ball

Ever wonder how your dog can curl up into a ball so tight that he looks half his normal size? Not only is this impressive but it’s also a biologically inherited ability that comes from wild dogs.

Though it doesn’t appear to be the most comfortable formation for catching z’s, it definitely has a function for pups that actually need to worry about their safety. Dr. Margaret Gruen, D.V.M. from NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Behavior Service, told Vetstreet that there are two main reasons why pooches take this circular configuration.(dog walking services nyc)
One is more obvious and that’s to stay warm. In the wild, dogs will dig a nest and curl inside it. So if your dog is really cold, he might be sleeping like this and it explains why he will paw at a blanket and attempt to make a nest with bedding. Another reason for this behavior is that the curled up position protects a dog’s internal organs from predators who may be on the hunt.
So there you have it! If your dog is sprawled out and sleeping soundly, this indicates that she is hot or feels safe in her surroundings.
