Obedience training encompasses “sit,” “lie down,” “paw” and maybe a few other basic commands, but one thing your dog won’t learn in puppy school is how to paint. This, however, is exactly what two talented beagles are able to do on Prince Edward Island. Their owner and professional dog trainer, Tonji Stewart, rescued both dogs when she lived in Newfoundland and has since spent hours working with them to teach them the art of, well, art.
Beagles Learn To Paint
Tuig, pronounced “tig,” is blind, yet still paws perfectly at the canvas while accepting treats as a reward. According to Stewart, Tuig has his own distinct painting style and puts his paw flat on the canvas then moves it around. Stewart trained her dogs to paint in stages using clicker training. She taught them to move their paw in a certain motion, she got them used to their painting mit and then she let them create. Piper, Stewart’s other Beagle, also paints, and both dogs’ work is sold around her hometown with the money going to help other beagles in need.(dog walking services nyc)
